This solo effort, by Norwegian improviser, jazz musician and drummer Jonas Sjøvaag, is his first pure solo release since the debut album of his project Navyelectre in 2003.
From that debut, till now, many things and collaborations have happened, albums have been released, tours have been done, and musical distinctiveness has been developed.
Commuter Music is an album based around relatively simple melodic movements, repeating patterns, and suggestive rhythm. It’s wrapped in a tight musical form that has a specific quality to it, not immediate, but all the more rewarding after complete focus for the records duration, perfectly suited while commuting, while taking time off or when the mind wanders and needs to be reigned back in.
Sjøvaag is both performer, composer, producer and technician and in addition to the musical qualities of this album, it relies heavily on outboard processing, varispeed recording techniques, and sound sculpting methods. Sjøvaag plays drums and percussion, electronic instruments, tape machine, & clarinet.
Andreas Ulvo plays Minimoog, Yamaha SY2 & Hammond.
